The Corrs Club

For the best part of a decade (1997 - 2005), the primary place for Corrs fans to gather to share their thoughts & experiences was a messageboard known as the CorrBoard. This was different to all the other messageboards out there, in the simple format that it used, being able to scan every post made by everyone in an easy to read structure. There were no individual sections, just one simple board (later becoming 3), where anything Corrs related, was a valid topic.

Mark, who expertly ran the CorrBoard in that time, was finding it harder & harder to keep things running, and in November 2005 decided to hang up his boots, so he could dedicate more time to his own life & family.

As for myself, I first came across the CorrBoard in 1998, when there were literally just a handful of people using it. In its latter days however, this had grown to thousands of people reading & posting on the board. After only a few years of existence it had developed enough reputation, that the band themselves would read the board, and in the case of Jim in particular, would occasionally leave the odd post. Unsure at the time, whether these could have been imposters, Mark had it confirmed in person when he met the band, that indeed the band have read & posted on the board.

Now, I started to help Mark moderating the board, sometime in the year 2000, when he had to go away, and needed someone to trust, to keep an eye on things while he was away. From what he had read on the board (and people who he would have spoken with), I was that person, and I was only too happy to help.

It was sad news, when Mark decided to call it a day, even though I knew it would come one day. People obviously did not want the site to go, and I even offered just to take over the running of the CorrBoard, but Mark wanted a clean break from the site, so I had to come up with something different. So, The Corrs Club was born, but not being a web programmer myself, I couldn't recreate the look & feel of the CorrBoard. Fortunately, I have some Corr friends out there who do know a thing or two, about writing web code, and producing web logos, so work began in December 2005 to recreate that CorrBoard familiarity.

However, I knew it could be a few months before what you see today would be ready, so I needed some kind of temporary place for people to go, and ended up creating a messageboard, much like all the others out there. I tried to make it as 'homely' as I could, trying to adopt as many features from the old CorrBoard as I could (such as the popular FOTM feature). Generally, regular users of the CorrBoard didn't really like it, but were willing to tollerate it, until we could get something more appropriate in place, which we did on March 1st 2006, when the site you see now went live.
