I haven't listened to this song much but listening to it again now, I think it could be about drug addiction. "Lifting me" and "Pressuring me" could be pointing towards the highs and lows associated with drug abuse. Your idea of it being about an abusive relationship is actually more plausible. Either way the song appears to be telling the story of a troubled individual, striving to be set free. Any of these topics would make it a classic Andrea creation like Mike pointed out.
I must say that this thread is shaping up to be a very nice and thought provoking one.
