The Corrs Club

On the nail as usual wombat. The music industry is an 'industry' no matter how

distasteful the purists might consider that. A commercial concern 'the record company' will only put as much advertising into a product launch as they consider that it warrants in terms of sales returns. An artist or band that are consistently at the top of their game in any particular era will always get the maximum backing and sales push from 'head office' (Taylor Swift as a current example) because that's where the corporation's profits lie. The Corrs had their time in the limelight back around 2000 with TOC and IB, yet some 17 years later they are still doing reasonably well and shifting records - it is unrealistic to imagine them again reaching #1 and 2 positions no matter how much we might love their music and wish to support them. To have reached #10 initially on the present charts was a good placing IMO, most of those sales having gone to their dedicated fans I'd guess - they are no longer 'on the radar' of the general music buying public, many of whom will not have been born when The Corrs were at the height of popularity.

The 'pop music' genre is exactly that - 'what is popular at a specific point in time'. Other genres like classical and country offer their artists a longer lifespan on both individual records and careers. Its always been the case unfortunately that The Corrs do not fit into any easily definable category, so to a certain extent they stand alone and risk having to depend on a loyal and thankfully continuing fanbase, bolstered now and then by others who 'think outside the box' and decide to listen to some alternate music and finding that they actually like it. The Corrs still have mileage in them as a live band but are unlikely to reach the dizzy heights of sales figures they achieved in the past, no matter how much this may irritate and frustrate us. I'm sure the recent RAH concert brought in revenues over and above what will be achieved from sales of JC, certainly in UK anyway. Like everyone else here, I look forward to any forthcoming tour and I'll get along to as many gigs as I can, but I'm certainly not crying into my beer over album sales figures...
