dave, I agree that fans (not necessarily people on this board, but in general) can be rather demanding and rude. The band are not our servants; it's their lives and their talents, and they don't owe us anything.

I have posted several times that I find the lack of updates on the band's activities to be inexplicable. To be clear, I say this not because I personally want to be kept updated 24/7 on what the band is doing. Rather, I want the band to do well, because (1) they are talented and deserve the success, and (2) from a selfish point of view, if they are successful then they'll be more likely to keep making music for me to enjoy. And since a social media presence is important to success nowadays, I therefore would like to see them being active on social media. So that's the reason why, and not because I personally want to know what the band are eating for dinner, or what movie they're watching, or whatever.

In particular, it would be nice to have some advance notice on their promo appearances. I think there was an instance this year or last year when Jim tweeted that they were going to be on some radio or TV show in half an hour. Unless you happen to be keeping tabs on twitter continuously, it's easy to not to see such announcements in time when there is so little advance notice. It seems to me that they could maximize the impact of their promo appearances by some judicious use of social media. How hard would it be to pay someone $20 or 20 euros an hour, one hour a day, to post news and throwback photos and the like on FB and Twitter? I would think that would be money well spent. It's frustrating to see the band not make the most of their opportunities due to a lack of a coherent publicity strategy.
