Four songs from WL were produced by the band and Chris Young, and they are generally more acoustic-sounding. Two of them -- Ellis Island and With Me Stay -- would not sound out of place on JC. The songs produced by John Shanks, on the other hand, tend to have more electronics and more of a beat (e.g., IDWIL, Unconditional).
I wonder if the band wanted a more acoustic, minimally-produced sound on WL, but the record company pushed them to include more commercial songs for their comeback?
