The Corrs Club

Interesting, I didn't know Irish people were so divided about The Corrs.

About 8 years ago I went by myself on a 3 day bus trip around the south part of Ireland. I'd just done a Haggis bus tour of Scotland and had a wonderful time, so I did the equivalent of Ireland, expecting to enjoy it just as much, if not more.

On the first morning of the trip I said to our tour guide that I loved The Corrs, and he was so negative about them. Said they couldn't play, couldn't write, etc etc. I was so disappointed, because they were 75% of the reason I wanted to see Ireland. Actually, that whole trip was strange and kind of disappointing. For example, I was excited to go to Ennis, which I was told was the Irish folk music capital of the world, and went to a session with my tin whistle. I played along a bit, and people were friendly, but they kept telling me how great the young male banjo player was, how much of a good guy he was. Then later, after he said something suggestive to me, I realised they were trying all night to set me up with him (including his father!). I got back to my hostel and felt so uncomfortable about it all. I was so naive! (Plus, I had a terrible cough which made me feel worse!).

It didn't turn me off going to Ireland again, because I'd love to see more of the landscape, but it was very different to what I was expecting!
