Funny you should mention the vocal rhythm — that was exactly the part that I had the hardest time with, and was most dissatisfied with. The poem has a very strong and unchanging rhythm, and I found it difficult to fit the words to music in a flexible way. I’m sure a large part of it is that I don’t have much practice setting text to music (which is why I undertook this exercise to begin with). But I like your idea of varying the accents in the third or fourth lines — I’ll give that a shot.

Glad you liked the chords. I’m usually more interested in harmony than melody or lyrics, so that’s usually the starting point for me.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Pat Pattison book; I’ll check it out.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to the Zannah song yet; I need to figure out my spotify username and password. (I created an account when JC was released, hoping to hear it before my CD arrived from Amazon UK, but it didn’t work in the US and I haven’t used my account since.) Do you play on the song as well?
