Steps burst out, straight into the big time with their first song - much like other manufactured pop acts, whilst the Corrs obviously had to work hard at it and it took until their 2nd album - and even at that point, singles chart success was yet to come.
Steps first single, 5, 6, 7, 8 was released in 1998, around the same time that Talk On Corners was in the charts. As we know, by this time, The Corrs had already had an album and a handful of singles.
I was 16 at the time, and paying about as much attention to the pop charts as I ever had - as someone who doesn't really like or follow pop music ;)
