...was not just whether a track was too loud or soft, but whether it was too far forward or back in the mix. There were times when I wanted to bring an instrument forwards, or push it backwards, in the sound field. I didn't know how to do this other than turning the volume up or down, but that didn't always work. If you know how to do this I would love to learn how!
(Another thing I had trouble with was getting all the tracks to align precisely. I found that it was easier for me to do so by trying to visually align the waveforms, rather than trying to align things by listening.)
