from the classical world, the Adagietto in Mahler's Fifth Symphony is heavenly:
and the beginning of the second movement to Gorecki's Third Symphony is ethereal, although certainly not romantic:
I heard this piece performed by the Chicago Symphony, and in this sections the notes seemed to just float in mid-air, in a way I have never heard reproduced in any recording.
