Hi all, long time no chat! I was lucky enough to get to the gig over the weekend and while I see lots of photos and videos being shared around on insta, twitter and youtube, I thought I'd post some of the smaller things that tend to get overlooked or maybe the general public doesn't care about as much -- but as longtime fans it's stuff we like to hear about.
This is purely off memory so if someone else was there and wants to correct me/steer me towards better accuracy please do! I didn't record a whole lot, this was the first time I ever saw the entire band together and I knew there'd be people getting better quality stuff than I could so I just let them go ahead and record and I kept my phone out of my way haha.
- Andrea commenting, "I can hear your accents! It's lovely!" during the crowd singing Runaway, and at one point she herself went "RUNAWOIIII" into the microphone haha
- When Caroline moved up to Andrea's mic you could hear an intake of breath, like everyone was thinking "ARE WE ABOUT TO GET NO FRONTIERS", and we did! And it was incredible!
- When Andrea joined the stage again, Jim said something to her and gestured to the keyboard and she said, "Oh really? Okay." and then joined the mic and said "Oh dear! You ever just look at your hands and think... what are we doing?" And then proceeded to play an acoustic intro to Summer Sunshine which I think may have been a bit unplanned/last minute? I don't know I got the impression she hadn't had time to rehearse it haha -- but she did it beautifully, it was wonderful.
- Andrea gesturing at Caroline throughout a song -- I can't remember which one now, it might have been Ellis Island? And Caro couldn't figure it out and at the end Andrea laughed and explained, "Poor Caroline there, I was asking to have her turned up a bit in my ears and she thought I was telling her to stop playing!"
-- Andrea told a story about Jean and Gerry seriously considering emigrating to Australia when they were first married. "But then Mammy... likely what happened, Mammy got pregnant. And that scuppered the Oz plans." She also said they were "both beyond, now" but had come out to Australia with the band last time and people had asked for their autographs while they were here and they had been delighted by it.
-- Caroline gesturing to herself and then a circle around at the band in a break between songs, and Andrea abruptly going "Oh right, uh, I guess I'll introduce the band now!" and laughing. She forgot!
-- "So we haven't been here in a long long time. I think it's time we came back, how about we come back next year, will you come and see us?"
- So many songs had different intros so sometimes it took a while to figure out what we were about to get! It took me a minute to figure out OWIS, and that wasn't the only one where it took me a minute! And they opened with Give Me a Reason which I hadn't considered at all for the opener!
It was honestly everything I had hoped for. I was 14 last time the full band was here and the nearest concert to me was 1800km away. So I never got a chance haha. I've seen Sharon both times she's come out here and I was lucky enough to be in London when Andrea was promo'ing Lifelines, and I saw her (and a surprise Caroline for Runaway) at the Union Chapel. But this was THE CORRS and I still can't quite believe I got to see them. I never thought I would!
And I wondered the whole time who else from COL or Corrs Club might have been there and I'm sorry we didn't get to chat in person this time, but let's try for next year, yes? :)
