Now I understand why the publishing/development deal was so important. It sounds like it gave the band a chance to focus on their music and hone their craft, without having to worry about working a 9-to-5 job. I don't think I understood these kinds of deals existed, outside of a record company.

Do you know how producers get paid? Would the band have paid David Foster a flat fee to produce their album, however long it took?
