First impression?
Solid Corrs. Nothing new but nothing not good.
The production is very good. Steve Power, (also plays bass) and Guy Chambers, who worked with/produced Robbie Williams.
Notable is the instrumentation adding Jim on vibraphone,
Plus the addition of two key elements a marimba and a critical pedal steel.
Guitars are there but really not prominent.
Most surprising is Caroline credited on cornetto, as well as drums. I thought there was some added oomph beneath Andrea’s whistle and had to look it up!
Andrea shines. The vocal is beautifully recorded. I can listen to her sing for hours.
They took FM’s Celtic flavored opening and made it obvious and authentic.
Caroline adds her steady drumming (I suspect some parts looped) moving things along nicely, no distractions or flourishes.
Sharon just plays beautifully.
Jim is in there and I suspect he’s the glue that holds everything together.
Two points, IMOP.
The Corrs smooth out an edge the original had. To me, the harmonies play a huge role in making the song work.
FM had three very distinct voices…Christine, Stevie and Lindsey.
The Corrs are almost too “Perfect” here (sorry bad pun)
Their “pristine Perfect” (please forgive me it’s a disease) sound is almost synthlike.
(No or low synths being good)
There’s a sort of blandness.
All in all I like the song. Easy listening, adult contemporary whatever. It is great to hear
them back and this is a nice return.
