Little Lies thoughts 10-Oct-2023 00:04:02

I'm not a huge fan of this song, but it's always good to hear a new Corrs song. I never particularly liked (or disliked) the original Fleetwood Mac song -- it was OK but nothing special. The Corrs stick fairly close to the original, so for me it's a solid song but not one of my favorites. I never particularly liked Everywhere either, but I'm more excited to hear Songbird.
I like the pedal steel on Little Lies, which is subtle enough so I didn't even notice it at first. Usually I don't like the sound of pedal steel at all (I'm not a fan of country music), but I think it's used effectively (and sparingly) here.
I see Caroline is credited as playing the cornetto, an instrument that I had never heard of. Can anyone point out where this appears? I don't really know what to listen for.
I was also excited to see that Jim is credited with playing vibes, and there's also a credit for marimba. (I'm a big fan of mallet percussion instruments and have composed pieces for mallet percussion ensemble.) But I don't hear this either.
It seems odd to me that they added the three news songs to the 2001 Best of the Corrs album, which predates their Borrowed Heaven hits. Why not create a new "Best of" release that spans the band's entire career? Or if they didn't want to create an entirely new album, why not add the new songs onto the Dreams collection? I don't really understand their marketing decisions.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing the other two songs.
