But really, what I want to do is resolve user password issues - in the least allowing me to register new users and to reset existing passwords manually (which is how the board has always worked).
I've figured out how it works, but having written exactly no PHP code prior to last night, it's slow going
Just to put you all at ease on what my small list of things to change includes... and show they are all so minor that it won't really effect the board much in the short term..
- POTW becomes POTM, as that means I'm more likely to actually update it
- Take regular DB backups (I suspect I took the first and only DB dump last night, but that still needs some testing)
- Changing some names and text across the board
- Fixing broken things, like links to contact people - this will likely just be removing the links as I don't think we should and this was all controlled by an old Invision board (regular style forum) which is not going to be updated
- Creation of some admin pages to allow me to do account stuff without hacking about in the DB (which is actually my day job, so I'm not bad at that!)
- A search for dead links
- A bunch of small code fixes if I feel I can
- I might *might* look to see if there is an off the shelf board that can replicate the front page style appearance of TCC as this old board and code is... well, old, and I fear that parts will simply stop working soon (and I'm not a web developer!)
Very much maintenance, definitely not overhaul!
