First of all I just love watching The Corrs play at the Royal Albert Hall (this was the third time I'd seen them there)! It's an amazing venue for any gig but it's particularly special to see The Corrs there because of the key role their 1998 gig played in the history of the band. Andrea mentioned this during the gig although she got confused about what year the St Patrick's Day gig was and said it was 1999!
Secondly it was great to be able to join the band in supporting the fantastic work of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Before the gig we heard the story of one young man who had been helped by the charity and it was really emotional to hear how they had helped him to get to a point where he is now cancer free. A group of other young people who have been supported by the charity came on stage and a got a fantastic reception from the crowd which clearly meant a lot to them.
The gig itself was fantastic as always and was a slightly cut down version of the set they have played in most of their recent gigs. The acoustics in the Royal Albert Hall are some of the best around so they always sound particularly good there! As usual there were some funny moments too, with Andrea disappearing off stage at one point to put her boots back on which prompted Sharon to ask where she was and to ask if they should carry on the gig without her!
The only negative point for me was the large barrier in front of the stage which I don't remember being there for previous gigs at the venue. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat but when sitting down the barrier partially obstructed the view of the stage, as you can see in many of my photos. The situation wasn't helped by an over zealous security guard who kept telling us to sit down when we stood up for Joy of Life and a couple of other songs. Thankfully for the last few songs nearly everyone was standing up and enjoying themselves so he gave up!
Of course for me personally the absolute highlight of the evening was getting to meet Andrea and Caroline after the gig and getting the lovely picture with Andrea you can see in my photos. I can't believe that actually happened and I'm still buzzing now!
Overall it was a very special night which I'll never forget! Can't wait to see them again in June!
