Very hard to imagine what people went through at the time. "40% of Americans" had ancestors who passed through Ellis Island - whoah. Roughly almost half the population of the country, yet racist and bigoted views are gaining huge traction. This is insane. History is so important to learn.
I absolutely love this song by the Corrs. I'm not kidding, I tear up a lot when listening to it. I love the almost acoustic quality to it on the album - the Corrs at their best, just a stripped down music track and their vocal harmonies, great heartfelt lyrics and a homage to all their people that had to go through this and lose a bit of themselves to be reborn on the other side as Americans. It's quite sad. And beautiful.
Really one of their best songs in my opinion
