Every once in a rare while I will hear on the radio the version by Kyu Sakamoto that was a hit in (I think) the early 1960's. It's one of those songs that will get into your head and you'll suddenly find yourself humming it.
Back in the early 1970's, my older brother got this newfangled thing called a "cassette player" made by Sony in Japan and brought all the way to California by our neighbor who was a flight engineer with Pan Am Airlines. With it came a sample cassette with some Japanese songs. One, was a mild rock instrumental with a very catchy and distinctly Japanese melody that I still have in my head, although I never knew its title.
Priscilla Ahn always brings something new to her covers. She's great!
