I did get a chance to listen to some of this yesterday.

It's interesting how he uses the instruments to make some of the sounds. Like at the beginning - you can really 'hear' the thumping of a train over the tracks etc. I thought at first there was a supplemental 'background' track it was done so well but the more I listened/watched the more I decided that there wasn't.

I'm still not sure if I really like his music though. (Sorry!! wink.gif) It's very interesting, and detailed, and fascinating to investigate. But at the same time it's a little... Jarring? With the lack of harmonic movement etc. I feel like it would be difficult to listen to entire composition in one sitting. If that makes sense? However, maybe I just need to get a bit more into it before I come to fully appreciate it.

My favorite class in the whole of my university career was a Balinese Gamelan class (I think I've maybe said this here before? Sorry if I'm repeating myself!) and I know on the first day of class when the instructor played some recordings for us it just sounded like chaos and not particularly pretty chaos at that! But as we got into it and started playing ourselves and learning how it was all constructed and put together it became absolutely fascinating and beautiful to me once I could hear the individual parts for how they fit into the whole etc.

So - perhaps his music is somewhat the same - it becomes easier to appreciate the more you learn about it. (I don't think I'd have listened to as much of 'Different Trains' as I did if I hadn't been interested already by what you'd posted and listening for some of the things you'd mentioned etc.)

Anyway - thanks for the suggestion! It was certainly fun and interesting!
