If you'll pardon my abundant posts this weekend, allow me to put the spotlight on Bertolf. His third and latest album is simply called BERTOLF, and it's available (even in the US) at iTunes. Most artists self-title their first albums, but Bertolf purposefully chose to give it this title because it is a very personal album, made from a desire to let his listener know more about him. The song Credo which says: And if I'm gonna carry on / It's knowing there's no pleasing everyone / I'll stop looking for that master key / 'Cause the only truth to see / Is to be really true to me.
It's an excellent album, full of melodic, imaginatively produced songs that can be moving; comforting like I Know It Will Pass (a song with a great message); full of thoughtful cultural analysis like The Madness of Today (about today's media) or Other People, or concerning itself with concepts of the spiritual life such as his tribute to George Harrison, Om Hare Om, in which he blends the ideas of science and spirituality. There's also a tribute to Crosby, Stills and Nash called Burning Bushes and a rock song about a changed life called Ghost.
Late last year, Bertolf set out to record a track with men's chorus to pay respect to his late grandfather who sang in a chorus for many decades. Growing up, he enjoyed going to see his grandfather perform and developed an affinity for the sound of the voices resonating inside the church. Using Twitter, he checked around for an available church that he could use as well as someone to direct the choir. On December 3, 2011, he assembled a group of singers in a church in Warfhuizen. With this chorus, made up good friends and colleagues and also his father, he recorded the first single, "English Roses," which was released at iTunes on December 7, 2011.

The second single that he released is called "Mary" a very moving song. The lyrics explain everything.
MARY
The video for "Here I Am" fittingly shows a time-lapsed portrait of Bertolf being (created by artist Kees Wennekendonk). The reference to being born the bottom of the sea comes from the fact that he was born and raised in the municipality of Dronten, which is built on a polder (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polder) and only received its official name in 1972.
