Unfortunately, I think. A year or so ago, someone confronted Neil Armstrong with a Bible and asked him to swear on it saying that he really had walked on the moon. Neil refused. Jim Corr tweeted a link to an account of the incident along with the tweet "Isn't this interesting" or words to that effect. I thought Jim too ready to embrace conspiracy theories.
The incident made me think of Larry Holmes as world heavyweight boxing champion back in the eighties. When he went out in public, he was accompanied by a bodyguard. Why would the #1 fighter in the world need a bodyguard? Because he was the champ, people wanted to take him on. The bodyguard took care of such confrontations. Holmes explained that if you wanted to fight him, you had to go through a long process of qualifying. The world heavyweight boxing champion should not have to prove himself to every punk who wants to have a go at him. Similarly, someone of Neil Armstrong's stature should not have to answer to every skeptic who shoves a Bible at him and asks him to swear that he did walk on the moon.
