Here's one of the new songs recorded after Roxette reunited after Marie's battle with cancer.
About the experience, Per said: "I was on my way to a press conference somewhere in Europe, Brussels maybe. Somebody called and said that Marie had collapsed and nobody knew what had happened. I was standing on the parking lot at Kastrup Airport [Copenhagen] and I had to decide whether to go on or to fly back again. Then they told me that it was serious. I've never experience something like that before. It just drains you. Her chances were very slim, they told us. Only 1 in 20 persons survives that disease so it's amazing that she's still alive."
Marie says: "I couldn't speak for a long time. I couldn't get any words out, which was terrible. Per has always believed in me and that I would come back. He has always stood by me. This happened in 2002, and now I'm recovered and doing just fine but those years just after it happened were horrible." After being given a clean bill of health, Marie revealed that the tumor took away her sight in her right eyes. "I bump into things all the time, it takes a long time to get used to."
About "No One Makes It On Her Own," Per remarked, "I wrote it with the intention of Marie singing it. But I still wrote it for myself in a way. But when Marie started singing it, I thought, 'This is spot on!'" (looking at Marie) "you were telling the story of your life. I hadn't thought of that. You made that song your own."
It was after some seven years in May 2009 that Marie walked onto the stage in Amsterdam where Per was giving a concert as part of his Party Crasher tour. As reported in The Daily Roxette:
There were screams, wolf whistles, shouts of "Marie!," cheers, hoots, hollers, and just about every other loud sound of jubiliation you could possibly imagine when Per Gessle invited Marie Fredriksson to join him on stage this evening. And yet, if one paused for a moment to look at the people around them, it was rather easy to spot people with tears in their eyes.
Marie, wearing jeans and a black blouse and vest, walked onto the stage with confidence, raised her arms in the air, and acknowledged the cheering crowd. After giving Per a hug, she said "Wow!," obviously pleased with the reception she was receiving. Per went to a microphone and joked "Don't forget to bring your cameras," as a virtual sea of cameras had popped up into view. Then, in the moment of silence just before Marie was about to sing, someone near the front of the audience — a male voice — shouted "Thank you God!"
