I first heard them in the movie Juno's soundtrack and immediately fell for the simplicity of the melody and the complex nature of the lyrics (no two fans have an exact interpretation of this particular song).

I have to agree, The Boy with the Arab Strap is the one people immediately think of when you say Belle and Sebastian. It's one of the songs I dance around to (alone! ), along with the following:



(NOTE: anybody else who finds the harmony reminiscent of ABBA's Does Your Mother Know?)

They also write beautiful songs about outcasts and bored people--hardly romantic, but they always make it work.



This one should interest people who like to turn off the lights and go on a sound trip:
