Yeah, the '80s influence is all over their sound. That's one of the reasons why they appealed so much to me the first time I heard them, back in 2005. I'd never noticed any 70's influence in their sound until I heard the song above, "Fading Listening", which clearly has a Fleetwood Mac kind of vibe in the verses. I also thought the keyboard sound kinda reminded me of "Man On The Corner", by Genesis, which is very early 80's.
Thank you so much for posting the interview with Carah, Steve. I really enjoyed that. I'd seen a couple of interviews with her while she was out of the band, and also a couple of interviews with the band during the same period. Essentially, the band would always say, "She wanted out", while Carah was saying, "They kicked me out." This interview was much more informative, and quite lengthy.
I remember when they'd originally posted the "Together Again" video last year. It was such a great, creative way to reveal that Carah was back in the band. I didn't know, till I watched the Carah interview, that the day of the shoot was actually the first time that the four of them had all been back together since the split.
I'm a very happy camper because I actually just got to see Shiny Toy Guns in concert for the very first time on the 1st of this month. I started following them maybe a year or two prior to the release of their debut album...as they'd previously recorded two different versions of the album, independently, before they were signed. It was so exciting to be finally seeing them, and knowing that Carah Faye was back in the band, made it that much more exciting. Even though it was standing room only and we were all packed in there like sardines, I really think I had a smile on my face the entire time.
They were so excellent! My sister and I went and she took a couple of videos, which I have posted on my youtube channel. The first song, "You Are The One", is from their debut album. The second is the classic 80's song, "Major Tom", by Peter Schilling. These are in HD, so do try to watch them in Hi Def if you're able.
