Really busy lately, so haven't had time to say much about my AOTM pick. Briefly:

I've been a Joe Jackson fan for 30 years. He's best known for a few hits like Is She Really Going Out With Him?, Steppin' Out, and the song I chose here, You Can't Get What You Want. A classically trained composer and musician, he started out as a new wave rocker in the late 70's (a contemporary of Elvis Costello), but has made albums in a variety of styles, including big band jazz and Latin-inflected pop, and has even written a classical symphony. He' still active, having recently released an album of interpretations of music by jazz pioneer Duke Ellington.

My favorite album of his is 1982's Night and Day, which contains Steppin' Out and Breaking Us in Two, and has my favorite cover art.

Jackson is known for re-arranging his songs when playing them live, sometimes dramatically so. I like this 1986 live version of You Can't Get What You Want, which replaces the trademark horn section in the original with guitar.
