but it can do RMS and peak normalistion. both algorithms avoid clipping (well peak certainly does. RMS does too, right?) what i did was apply my own constant gain across the entire track and confirmed excessive clipping in audacity. youd expect the clipped regions to be lost forever but bringing the mp3 to its original level and looking very closely at the waveform showed the original signal was back. No copy had been made. the software must retain the lost values somehow but i cant imagine how as clipping occurs as those samples cant be encoded in the first place! so how are they stored? the program claimd reencodingcauses no quality loss and i was trying to prove it wrong!
