It was her 1997 East West album and I think she gave it to me the year it was released. I'd never heard of her before and gave it a listen but I really didn't care for it. Truthfully, I think I've only listened to it that one time, too. I think since my cousin knew that I was such a big fan of Sade's voice that I would like Julia's, but it just didn't have the same appeal for me.
Interestingly, after having watched this video, I just realized that one of my aunts seriously sounds almost identical to Julia when she sings. She has a tendency to go off-pitch frequently, but it's REALLY uncanny...the similarity in their voices. She'd recorded herself singing Patsy Cline's hit, "Crazy", several years back. I'll see if I can locate it and post it here.
I remember that I'd given to my cousin Lea Salonga's 1993 self-titled CD that same X-mas. She'd never heard of her, either, but she ended up liking it, and her, a lot.
