Kind of a strange event in that there were 2 "theaters" being used to screen the films. Theater 1 was a vacant business in a fancy mall called the Malibu Lumber Yard and theater 2 was a few blocks away at the library. Seeing theater 1 was in vacant place, there was no air conditioning. An Engagement turned out to be an excellent film that was beautifully photographed and acted.
Alix was the main character and she goes through a lot and shows some real acting ability. I managed to see several shorts and most were very good. Amongst the ones I enjoyed was one called Rolling Romance, a film about a young man suffering from muscular dystrophy who ends up using a computerized match making service for people with disabilites. It's got some very funny moments, but a serious side too. Later they called up some of the cast and crew and we found out the writer of the script is a wheelchair bound fellow so it has many interesting insights into their world. I thought it was very good and here's the trailer.
