When someone offered it to me to read on my break at work I thought "Whaaaat???" I thought it would be silly. I'm an avid reader and this just didn't pass the smell test. Little did I know I'd be hooked on the story Diana Gabaldon had woven. I can't wait for the new book next year to see what happens to the characters next.
If you like historical novels, you'll like it. If you like a little adventure and romance thrown in, you'll like it. It's a little of a lot of styles. Hard to put down once you start though, so be prepared to read your way through the series.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the mini series. Books are always much better than movies.
I'm going to have to check out some of the other books suggested here.
