The way I became familiar with XY Unlimited is a member of the band, James Adams is a very good friends with the two sisters that form the band Karmina. I've mentioned Karmina before and I think they are amazing vocally and are both very good musicians and songwriters. James often plays percussion and a few other sundry instruments when he accompanies them at a show. XY Unlimited is a 4 piece male vocal group that also plays and writes much of their own material. They also usually do a few covers and sometimes have to do a lot of covers when they get paying shows at various private affairs. XY Unlimited also do a lot of shows at colleges which some bands do because they are often better paying gigs than playing clubs/bars unless you're a well known act. It does seem like you do have to do the more public places (other than colleges) to get your name out there where you might get discovered. Because of their association with Karmina I did check them out and was impressed with their vocal prowess (especially harmonies). They have an album called Omega which has some pretty good stuff, including a song called Carmen written when one of the members was trying to get a date with a Carmen who worked at Trader Joe's (a market chain, that started in southern California). It's clever and pretty funny. Here's their facebook which they update more frequently than their website. https://www.facebook.com/XYUnlimited They are doing a show that I'd attend if it was closer at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco with Karmina as the headliners. Seeing it's close to Halloween, you might enjoy this video and song XY Unlimited made last year. ">
If you notice there are 6 guys in the video Cara posted. The bass player was a friend and the second guy who got lead was former member who came to the show and was recruited to sing for the older fans of the band.
