This was probably about 1987-1988 - somewhere around then - so it was probably the Time and Tide album that my brother had. I liked what I heard, but just never went on to explore her music. (This was about the time that the Beatles records started to come out on CD and I got on a Beatles kick!)
I do hear what you mean about the similarities between Basia and INLYA and Humdrum. I listened to Promises, which has a little bit of the "Andrea-ness" to it. 
Recently, before I read your post, I was looking at this YouTube page that has some rather good quality "vintage" music from the 60's to 80's, and noted this one by Basia, that I thought you might find interesting:
