I purchased Benny's new album. It is fitting that this Piano album is on the classical label Deutsche Grammophon. It is indeed very classical in feel, even with the songs that I know. The compositions with which I am less familiar make me feel that I might be listening to one of the piano works - an arietta - of Edvard Grieg. In this context, songs like "I Let the Music Speak" reveal another aspect of the greatness of ABBA: the splendid quality of some of their compositions. Anyone who listens objectively to all the ABBA albums must admit that there are some pretty bad ABBA songs, but there were those other times that Benny and Björn Ulvaeus reached a lofty pinnacle as songwriters. At their best, I do feel that they rank with the great classical composers; this Piano album manages to put the music in that light.

I am familiar with Chess but to be honest I haven't ever heard the whole musical, perhaps from being put off by the fact that Frida and Agnetha aren't singing (meaning no disrespect to the actual singers). I am mostly familiar with "I Know Him So Well" which would have made a wonderful duet by the ABBA ladies.

I agree that the organ on that version of "Dancing Queen is "a bit much" but it still shows Benny's qualities as an artist. Benny has a band of his own that has put out some records. I might have to check these out some time. I had never seen either of those two videos, so thank you for sharing them, Steve.

(Linda, I apologize if it seems that we've hijacked your "welcome back" thread! It really made my day to see a post from you again!)
