There's another slightly different arrangement of the Bachrach-David medley in this live video:

At 4:30, Richard explains how they sing the close 4-part harmonies in Do You Know the Way to San Jose?, which I found very interesting. The entire concert is terrific, possibly my favorite live performance of theirs that I've seen on youtube.

I'm a late convert to the Carpenters. Their peak years were before my time -- I'm the same age as Sharon, and by the time I discovered pop music around 1980 or '81, the Carpenters had declined in popularity. I was familiar with the Carpenters early-70's hits just from hearing them on the radio or on TV, but I never gave them much thought. I didn't really become a fan until about 5–10 years ago, when I listened to some of their earlier songs and realized how beautifully melodic and well crafted they were.

I've also become a fan of ABBA and Captain and Tennille after the fact. In retrospect, I find it striking how good these 70's bands were, even though they were considered bubblegum pop at the time. All three share outstanding songwriting and musicianship. It's good to see that at least the Carpenters and ABBA are getting some belated appreciation.
