Information:
- The Mexican release
included a poem in the song:
Spring is like a perhaps hand
(which comes carefully
out of Nowhere)arranging
a window,into which people look(while
people stare
arranging and changing placing
carefully there a strange
thing and a known thing here)and
changing everything carefully
spring is like a perhaps
Hand in a window
(carefully to
and fro moving New and
Old things,while
people stare carefully
moving a perhaps
fraction of flower here placing
an inch of air there)and
without breaking anything.
Poem By: e.e.cummings
- The Latin American release
includes clips of e.e. Cummings reading his poems, including the one
aboe and short pieces of a few others at the end of the
song.
- One of our members (Leslie) asked Sharon about Goodbye on
Twitter and Sharon said the inspiration was WH Auden. Because of
the lyrics in the song, the poem Funeral Blues (Commonly known
as Stop All The Clocks) was at least one of the specific WH
Auden poems. The following verse comes from Funeral
Blues:
The Stars are not wanted now: put out
every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away
the ocean and sweep of the wood. For nothing now can ever come
to any good.
- In the Borrowed Heaven EPK when discussing Goodbye Caroline notes
that the time to deal with the loss of their mother helped them
express it better than the rawness on In Blue. Andrea says
that singing Goodbye is almost cathartic for
her.
- Sharon recorded a demo version of Goodbye which was
released as a B-side track on some releases.
Written By:
- The music lyrics for Goodbye were written by Sharon. She talks in
the Borrowed Heaven EPK about how the lyrics deal with the frustration she
felt at Jean's death and not really understanding the concept of
death.
- From an interview
with Sharon by Dave Fanning on the 11th Hour (see
around 6:45) Sharon also confirms this:
DF: Let's take a look at this here, look: Runaway, big hit for the Corrs. So Young, huge hit for the Corrs. Radio, Long Night, Goodbye -- you wrote all of those.
SC: Yeah, I wrote Runaway with Caroline and Andrea; the rest I wrote by myself.

Lyrics:
I never thought one day you'd be gone,
away forever more
No one can say, no one could explain
why you were taken
Oh where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?
It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why
Tell me it's true, tell me there's something more
Another time for love
One day I'll know, one day I'll be there
Will you be waiting?
Oh where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?
It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why
Try to stop asking why... yeah...
Where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?
It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why, why
Try to say my goodbye
