- A quote from Sharon from a 2012 interview with Australian radio JOY 94.9:
"When I wrote It's Not a Dream' I was literally thinking about the fact that life can be incredibly difficult. And if you're lucky enough to have somebody that loves you, and that you can hold hands with and battle the world with, then you're truly very very lucky and it's something that you need to appreciate. I wrote this song because people are very often in relationships looking at what's next and not thinking, wow, isn't this great that I can just talk about all the crap that I like talking about and all the silly stuff and moaning, or just have dinner and chat and talk about your life and work through problems. Isn't that just so lucky? So it's not a dream, it's reality, and I just wanted to write that song to constantly remind myself that I am very lucky to have that."
- A quote from a 2011 web interview with Liverpool Live:
[on the album Dream of You] "It's a collection of songs I've written over the past couple of years, I'm very much inspired by my life and all the love and heartache and emotions that have been going on in my life over the past couple of years. I suppose each song has its own story. It's Not a Dream, the first single to be released from the album, is a love song and it's a song to remind myself how lucky I am to be loved. That's why I'm saying in it "it's not a dream it's reality, you are my soul, you are my sanity". If you're lucky enough to meet somebody who loves you then you're truly a very lucky person and I think the song is reminder to respect that and appreciate it."
