So Young

Information:
  • So Young was produced in 1997 as part of Talk On Corners. Per Jim, on the All The Way Home documentary, the band had to fight the producers for the song to be placed on the album.

  • And then in 1998 thru 1999, the song was given new life. It was remastered by K-Klass for a US release of Talk On Corners - Special Edition (Feb 16, 1999). (Remix promo CD - PRCD 8915) (http://www.myspace.com/kklassuk). The song moved to the #6 spot on the UK Charts.

  • While in the United States, they were able to shoot a video near October 21, 1998, the Warners Ear-01 MusicFest in Chicago, Illinois (Corrs TV, COL, best of the Corrs - the videos).

As per DVD: "best of the CORRS - the videos"
    Video Director: Dani Jacobs
    Video Producer: Liz Miller

The band were on tour in Chicago, so that's where Dani Jacobs flew to catch them in a characteristically windy site - the Flamingo Building, downtown.

Dani Jacobs: "The styling involved us taking over a floor of Barneys and trying everything on - the staff were not very happy at first but it ended up OK. Sharon tried on a man's jumper that was too big for Jim and looked so great that it's the one she wears in the video. There is a story we probably can't tell about filming on the roof and a topless woman in the office in the next building. It's a shame because it's a story I've heard the band often telling." His version tantalizingly ends there . . .

  • So Young has had mixed reviews from many of the fans and music critics around the world. Yet for some reason, this simple and bubbly pop song has grabbed the attention of fans all over. It was been played within the last three songs at concerts from the Talk on Corners tour through the Borrow Heaven album eras. The audience goes wild every time they play the song and the band just seems to love the interaction. Just watch the video on the Live at Lansdowne road to get a taste of the excitement.

Written By:
  • It is generally believed that Sharon wrote both the music and lyrics for So Young.
    • This is from the Fan Q&A section of the old Corrs official website:

Fan question: I know that you have penned several Corrs songs - 'Radio' is one of my all-time favourite songs. I've read interviews where Andrea and Caroline have talked about their collaborative efforts, however, I was wondering what your songwriting process entails. Do you write on the piano or violin? What about lyrics? What inspires you to write? Do you prefer to write alone?

Sharon's answer: For me, very very often I will actually hear the song in my head before I go near anything. And like one lyric or line will pop into my head and then I have to work on that. Funny enough, I normally write on guitar, which I really can't play at all, but for whatever reason it's just... it works for me. It just seems to work and that's what I write on. Radio just came out of a chord that I was messing with on the guitar. And So Young... it was in my head, and I just had to sort of get it down.

    • Exerpt from an interview done by Sharon with Trevor McShane:
TM: On the Corrs' album, the songs say "written by the Corrs." Is that really what happened? All four Corrs get together and write?

SC: All four of us are writers, but we didn't necessarily all write together en masse at the one time, Caroline and Andrea wrote a lot together. I wrote a lot on my own. Jim and Andrea wrote a lot together. So we were each writing, at least a quarter of the album each, so we just went "The Corrs."

TM: So it's one for and all and all for one.

SC: Yeah, but if you picked out the individual songs, they would be different individuals writing. If we're in an interview and somebody said, "Okay, who wrote So Young?," well everybody would say, "I did."

      TM: You mean "you?"

      SC: Yeah, I did

  • It has been said that Sharon wrote the So Young on guitar in a Dublin hotel room and it was written for/about her parents.

  • At her first solo gig in the US at Howard Theater in Washington DC on Jan. 11, 2013 Sharon confirmed that she wrote So Young and said this about the song: "I wrote it about my parents because they have been young forever, and I love that about them that no matter how old they got they were always young in spirit and in their heart and in how they approach life. They continued to dream throughout their lives and then they passed on that whole idea to me and my siblings, that if you dream it's possible, then it is possible. And that's been probably my motto in life, actually: what you dream is what you can be, and that's what I follow all the time. I think it's really special, so hopefully I'll give the same thing to my kids because it has meant everything to me." (Source: http://youtu.be/R6YMRWVz3c8)

Original Release Lyrics:

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah (Melody)
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah (Melody)

We were taking it easy
(n') Bright and Breezy Yeah
We are living it up
Just (a) fine and dandy Yeah

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No, it really doesn't matter, it really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes we can do it all again.

We are chasin the moon
Just running wild and free
We are follow through, every dream and every need.

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No, it really doesn't matter, it really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes we can do it all again.

Yeah we are so young, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes we'll just do it all again.

All again,
All again, Yeah

All again
All again

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

So Young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes, we'll just do it all again

We are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes, we'll just do it all again

We are so young
Yea,, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

We are so young
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

K-Class Remix Lyrics:

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

We were taking it easy
Bright and breezy, yeah
We are living it up
Just (a) fine and dandy, yeah
We are caught in a haze
On these lazy summer days
We're spending all of our nights just
A - laughing and kissing, yeah.

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No it really doesn't matter, really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young now, we are so young, so young now.
And when tomorrow comes, we can do it all again

We are chasin' the moon
Just running wild and free
We are following through
Every dream and every need

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No it really doesn't matter, really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes, we can do it all again
Yeah, we are so young now; we are so young, so young now

And when tomorrow comes, we'll just do it all again
All again, all again, yeah, all again, all again, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
So young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes, we'll just do it all again
Yeah, we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tomorrow comes, we'll just do it all again
We are so young - Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah -
We are so young - Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah -

Most of the information for this page was compiled by our boardmember SoYoung because it is his favorite Corrs song (as evidenced by his member name!). He also included some personal thoughts that I'd like to share here:
  • For me, I have come to like both versions. Without the K-Klass version, where would the Corrs be in the US? Though they never really broke the charts until Breathless, this song is absolutely beautiful.

  • I believe the song was written about the life of the band and their success. How day after day, they just lived for the moment. Either way, each member has something to add. Sharon's violin is a rare treat for a US dance mix. Andrea's snappy, cute voice just grabs my attention. Of course Caroline keeps the beat, and Jim the guitar.

  • The original is more acoustic and more "Corrish". I agree with most fans, it's a better mix of the song. But being American, I also like dance music, so the K-Klass Remix is fine when a strong beat is needed to get me going.

  • But the greatest thing is they choose to produce the video in Chicago. Imagine the odds, that's where my family is from. My fathers parents were the owner of a private music school; my mothers parents lived out in the suburbs on farm land. While they left town before I was born, I grow up in Chicago on the summers to visit my grandparents. Activities included taking the train into town, seeing the downtown zoo and Brookfield zoo, Chicago Museum, Sheds Aquarium and going to Berghoffs for dinner. My grandparents are dead now, but the memories live on and music echoes in my veins.

  • For myself, I hope this song can come alive. That we can live day and day and never worry about the day next. Maybe I'll keep the mind of a child, as much as the writing of this song biography.
